Lanzarote
The sunshine island of Lanzarote is far nearer to the west coast of Morocco (75 miles) than Spain (625 miles) which explains the marvellous all year climate, the winter temperature averages about 18c (64f) and in the summer it climbs to 25c (78f), although the mercury can soar a great deal more.Lanzarote Lanzarote is another of the volcanic Canary Island group renowned for some quite amazing landscapes, from the mountains to astonishing lava fields.

Although the island is only 40 miles by 15 miles it has over 10 miles of recognised beaches (water taxis can help you find a quiet one) and nearly 500 hotels serving the vast numbers of tourists that arrive from every part of the world. They are mostly in the resort towns around the coast utilizing the best beaches facing onto the Atlantic Ocean (which can be quite chilly at times). Bungalows, Villas and apartments (often grouped by a swimming pool) for use as holiday rentals for people requiring self catering accommodation.

To get there you'll need to catch a ferry or fly into Arrecife International airport (ACE) situated just a couple of miles from the capital of Lanzarote. Flights are continually bringing travellers from afar with a wide variety of airlines landing there, giving you the widest choice possible for price and legroom. Tourist attractions are commonplace with tours to various parts of the island extremely popular especially to the Timanfaya National Park which covers a good part of the island.

Water sports can be found in many of the holiday towns, with angling, hang gliding, diving, sailing, jet biking, para sailing, wind and kite surfing a big draw, the latter because of a fairly continuous wind off the sea. Boat trips can also be arranged with the whale and dolphin ones very popular.

Car hire can be had from the main resorts or by booking in advance to collect after you land at the main airport building, this gives you the option to tour some of the very scenic villages on Lanzarote as well as all the other places of interest. There are also aqua and animal parks for some family fun or day away from the beach, then dine out in one of the many fine restaurants in the evening or get some excellent snacks from the copious bars.
