Just under fifty miles off the coast of mainland Spain is the beautiful Island of Ibiza, only just over two hundred square miles in size and with a resident population of less than one hundred and forty thousand people. Part of the Balearic Island chain (and autonomous community of the same name) it is world renowned tourist destination for young people enjoying to clubbing scene and it quieter areas for family parties. Ibiza The island has an impressive history from the bronze age, to many invaders and settlers, including, Carthaginians (Phoenicians), Greeks, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Moors, Norwegians to name but a few!

Tourism is the main industry which is easily demonstrated by the fact that there is over 500 hotels on Ibiza, plus many rentable apartments and villas for use as holiday rentals, which come in all price ranges, from bulk, pile 'em high, pack 'em in cheap flats for the clubbing crowd to fantastic private houses for the rich. Away from Ibiza Town (the capital) the interior and coast can be extremely picturesque, in fact many areas are afforded the protection of Unesco World Heritage Sites to preserve them from more development.

Unless you're going to get the ferry from the mainland (all year from Denia), you will need to book a flight to Ibiza International Airport (IBZ) which is well served from most of the western European countries via major, budget and chartered airlines, the latter offering package holidays as well as the air travel. Besides dancing the night away at one of the numerous clubs there are other tourist attractions for all ages, such as water-parks and markets, for the adventurous, bungee and scuba, for a little culture try a museum or historical ruin.

To get around the Island of Ibiza, if buses, coaches and taxis don't appeal, car hire can be booked in advance of your trip at very good rates to be collected on your arrival. Sport fanatics won't be disappointed with a good variety in various locations and resorts, popular ones include horse riding, angling, parascending, abseiling and water sports of just about every description.
