Costa de La Luz
A little information about the Costa de La Luz, one of the less well known coastal destinations of Spain to UK visitors, but a favourite with the Spanish and German tourists. Situated on the extreme southern coast between Gibraltar and the Portuguese border, facing the Atlantic Ocean with long beaches of fine white sand, it is part of Cadiz Province in Andalucía. Costa de La LuzWith an unbelievable historical past, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Moors and scenes of many a battle fought in the area, history buffs will be in heaven. The accommodation whether hotels or self catering holiday rentals tend to be low-rise unlike some of the brasher regions of Spain, with excellent choices available for the more discerning traveller, no kiss-me-quick hats or stag holiday crowds here!

Entertainment again tends to the more targeted to the family than the singles with lots of nice restaurants and bars offering local cuisine, the seafood is a must try, and menus to draw in the foreign tourists. Unless you are going to take the long drive from Malaga, Jerez is the nearest and easiest international airport, although it doesn't have the greatest selection of flights, but some of the budget airlines now fly there.

Sports aimed at tourists are fairly plentiful with some excellent golf courses and all kinds of water sporting activities, including snorkelling, scuba, boating, kite surfing, found from the beaches or local marinas. There are some spectacular local and national nature parks where you can explore in beautiful surroundings and see the resident or migratory wildlife.

The climate is perfect for vacationing, as you can imagine being just across the straights to Africa with temperatures of high thirties reached in the summer and very warm spring and autumn weather, although it can get very windy at any time of the year, the only downside is the water is definitely chillier than the Med. Exploring the Costa de La Luz is easy in a hire car which is best obtained from the airport on arrival where lots of companies compete to offer the cheapest prices, don't leave it till the last minute.
