Local visitor attractions to these Salobrena Apartments: Salobreña is one of the better known towns on the Costa Tropical. It's relatively small, officially having approximately 10,200 inhabitants although this number is known to almost double in the summer months, as many people who have holiday homes come to Salobreña for the summer season. The town is often referred to as the "jewel" of the Costa Tropical, due to its picturesque and unspoiled nature.
The quaint whitewashed houses together with the narrow, winding streets that run between them are known as the "Casco Antiguo" or the Old Town. Hidden among these streets are some of the town's best local bars where you can have a relaxing drink and tapas while watching the world go by. Salobreña boasts a long stretch of beach, which, while popular in summer months is not overcrowded with tourists making it perfect for anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle further down the coast. One of the things that visitors can't fail to miss is the abundance of fields growing sugar cane. Salobreña remains one of the largest producers of cane sugar in the area and until recently was home to one of the only sugar cane refineries in Europe. Several varieties of tropical fruit are also produced locally, including the famous "chirimoya" or custard apple. For eating out, Salobreña has a good selection of restaurants serving both Spanish and international cuisine. Along the beach-front you can find "chiringuitos" that specialize in fish and seafood. Salobreña also caters to your shopping needs. Although there are no large hypermarkets or shopping centres (unlike the nearby town of Motril), there are plenty of smaller shops and supermarkets where one can find what they are looking for. The larger supermarket “Supersol” also stocks a wide selection of British and international products. Salobreña has a lively nightlife, with many late night bars that offer all types of atmosphere and music. There are also several nightclubs that stay open until the early hours of the morning - especially in the summer months. While not as evident as in other areas, Salobreña has an established community of expats who have come to the Costa Tropical to earn a living or just enjoy their retirement. Those looking to buy a house will be pleased to know that property prices in Salobreña are not as high as you would expect, especially when compared to areas further down the coast towards Málaga. While the last couple of years has seen a property market boom in southern Spain, Salobreña is still an attractive option when it comes to buying, this is reflected in the ongoing development of new property throughout the town.
