Local Attractions to Central Turre: The town of Turre is situated at approximately 7 km from Mojacar ando n the northern side of the Sierra Cabrera mountain range. In addition to its traditional farming and agricultural activities, these days Turre is an exceptional place to become acquainted with the cuisine of Eastern Almería. A great part of this area runs along the Sierra Cabrera, a range of mountains of particular beauty which conceals the ruins of Moorish settlements which were abandoned after the expulsion of the Moors. Amongst the tourist attractions not to be missed are the hermitage of St Francis of Assissi from the 16th century, the local church which dates from the 19th century, the archaeological sites, the Sierra Cabrera mountains and the farmhouses which are found there. The most popular festivals are the ‘Festival of the Gypsies’ on the 25th July and on the 3rd October they celebrate St francis of Assissi. You must not forget the gastronomy of the area which is known for its gurullos, olla de trigo, migas, pelotas y snails.
